Bethany Clark

I have been reading and writing for as long as I can remember (I learned to read when I was 3!). Some of my fondest childhood memories involve checking out stacks of books from the library and then reading them all in a single afternoon. My fifth grade teacher was the first person (besides my mom) who told me I was a good writer, and because of his encouragement, I went on to study creative writing at Shepherd University. While at Shepherd, I worked as a writing tutor and as chief copy editor of The Picket, the college’s student newspaper. I received my BA in English in 2013.

After graduating, I completed a yearlong online editing internship, which gave me experience writing critiques and solidified my desire to pursue further editing work. In September 2015, I started working for CED as an editor, proofreader, and critique specialist. I love having the opportunity to use what I’ve learned about what makes good writing, along with my natural tendency to notice the smallest details, to help authors shape their works and tell their stories.

My husband and I met at college, and we have a son who also loves books. We live in West Virginia and enjoy spending time outside together. I still write for fun when I have the time and inspiration.

As I raise my son and continue to learn what it means to follow Jesus myself, I like to keep Psalm 103:13–14 in mind: “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust” (NIV).
